I've been seeing a lot of questions and confusion over what Frieza to Dokkan Awaken to Golden Frieza. I hope this guide will answer that question for you, as well as some other basic tips for those who have never used Dokkan Awakening.

What is Dokkan Awakening

Frieza powers up to his golden form, and Goku tells Frieza that he really is the most evil being in the Universe to exploit his weakness like that. Goku tells Frieza the winner will get the Super Dragon Balls and Frieza should resurrect himself with them. Golden Frieza, + ha + sa, reverse fireball plus heavy attack plus special attack move for Frieza in Dragon Ball FighterZ execution, strategy guide, tips and tricks.

Dokkan Awakening is an Awakening beyond Z-Awakening. A Dokkan Awaken (hereafter referred to as 'D-Awaken') will transform the character into a new one, boost its rarity to the next rank and reset it to level 1. To Dokkan Awaken a character, it must be Z-Awakened and its level must be maxed out.

For example:

Level 60 SR Mecha Frieza + Z-Awaken = Level 60 SSR Mecha Frieza

Level 60 SSR Mecha Frieza + 20 levels = Level 80 SSR Mecha Frieza

Level 80 SSR Mecha Frieza + D-Awaken = Level 1 SSR Golden Frieza

Level 80 SSR Golden Frieza + Z-Awaken = Level 80 UR Golden Frieza Bailey no ordinary cat.

IMPORTANT: If you want to have a Super Level 10 Golden Frieza, you MUST make the Mecha Frieza Super Level 10 BEFORE D-Awaken. You cannot add super levels after D-Awaken because it will be a different character.

Now that you hopefully understand how to Dokkan Awaken, let's get into which Frieza you should D-Awaken.

Which Frieza?

How to get golden frieza race transformation

koalasan_z has done a wonderful job compiling the differences of each Golden Frieza here. When D-Awakened, the Frieza gains greater stats and a better passive.

#1 Mecha Frieza

The best reason to D-Awaken Mecha Frieza is because you can raise his super attack to level 10. His extreme super + 'ATK +42% when his Ki is 7 or more' passive means his supers will hit like a truck. If you don't have a Super Level 10 Mecha Frieza right now, don't fret. Collect the necessary D-Awaken medals and hang on to them. When the Mecha Frieza event returns, you'll be able to farm the rest of the Mecha Friezas and D-Awaken him when you're ready.

#2 Frieza 2nd Form

This Frieza's passive is quite strong as it disables guard and lowers DEF by 50% without any Ki requirement.

#3 3rd Form Frieza

His passive is increased from +1 to +2 Ki for STR and TEQ types. However as /u/MobileManASCpointed out its better not to D-Awaken 3rd Form Frieza if you have SSR Final Form Frieza, because they have strong +Ki link skill synergy that is lost if 3rd Form is D-Awakened.

#4 AGL 1st Form Frieza

The overall weak stats of this Frieza make him an undesirable candidate for D-Awaken. However D-Awakening does fix his link skills allowing him to properly link with other Friezas. His super level can also be raised if you are a masochist.

#5 Despair's Onslaught 1st Form Frieza

Although I'm not a fan of passives with random chances to trigger, when it does trigger the damage reduction could be quite good especially paired with ATK reducing leader skills.

#6 Emperor of Iniquity 1st Form Frieza

Although he is a pretty decent starter leader D-Awakening him only gives him a +500 ATK boost for his passive. A pretty meager bonus compared to the others.

#7 AGL Final Form Frieza

Form

This Frieza is obtainable from the upcoming RoF event. Unfortunately he's pretty bad. The Golden version's passive has a high chance to reduce all enemies' DEF by 50%. Even if it was guaranteed I still wouldn't use him, as DEF is just a terrible stat and reducing it doesn't gain you much damage at all.

#8 TEQ Final Form Frieza

You might be wondering what the mighty Final Form is doing on the bottom of the list. D-Awakening FF Frieza makes him a copy of the Golden Frieza you can pull from the rare summon right now, although TEQ instead of INT. The reason he is ranked dead last is because the D-Awaken is largely wasted on FF Frieza. A FF Frieza + Golden Mecha Frieza combo is much stronger than a Golden FF Frieza + Mecha Frieza combo, because FF Frieza can already become UR, whereas other Friezas need the D-Awaken to get there. Exception: If you have a duplicate FF Frieza you should definitely D-Awaken it. Its much better than giving a 5% ATK boost for your other FF Frieza's Super.

Closing comments

Keep team composition in mind when you choose who to D-Awaken. Remember, only one Golden Frieza can be used on each team. (this includes the one from the summon) This means don't go crazy D-Awakening all your Friezas or you'll never be able to use them all in a team together. Choose the best candidate to D-Awaken and use your other regular Friezas with him.

Bonus

There is a glitch you can abuse if you want to have two Golden Friezas on one team.

  • put Golden Frieza on the team

  • put the Frieza you are going to Dokkan on the team

  • Dokkan the Frieza

  • you now have two Golden Frieza on one team. But if you remove either one you won't be able to add him again, and they won't link to each other.

That's it! I hope this guide was helpful to you. Questions or criticisms? Leave a comment below. This guide is just my opinion and I'm sure other people will want to chime in so make sure to read the comments and get a second opinion!
